9. TITLE OF THE PROJECT ……

"Acoustical Study of Pollution Level in Local Water Bodies for Testing Potability"

10. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT …

Finding the potability of local water bodies, with molecular behavior of water in terms of the intermolecular interaction by ultrasonic study and the level of different pollutants in the water.

- Finding relation between physico-chemical and thermodynamical parameters with percentage of pollutants from the surrounding ecosystem.

-  Provide the trend in environmental research.

11. WHETHER OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED (GIVE DETAILS)

……The study was carried out for testing the potability of water from the local water bodies. The search for the local bodies was carried out and then by the proper procedure of sample collection and laboratory technique the water was tested for the concentration of its different parameters. The study was also carried out to find out any relation between the ultrasonic parameters and the physico-chemical parameters so that the process of quality monitoring can be made easier. The data provides us the clue to carry out more extended work on the interrelationship of the physico-chemical and ultrasonic parameters. There are four publications submitted to different conferences and the journals out of the observations and results from this project.

12. ACHIEVEMENTS FROM THE PROJECT ………

Four research papers were published in different journals and conferences, out of which two are in the International journal of repute..

13. SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS ……

Summary of the findings..

According to the proposal submitted for minor research project the study on the search for the potability of local water bodies near the Saoner city was carried out. The two major sources are located and the physico-chemical, ultrasonic and bacteriological study was carried out according to present norms. The literature survey purchasing of the instruments and other materials was carried out for the testing of potability. The water from both the sources are having the pH, TDS, alkalinity, calcium, iron, nitrites, chlorides, silica within the permissible limit of WHO. The bacterial infections are observed in the samples of both the water bodies. This observation proves that the water can be used for the drinking purposes only after filtration and not required to be treated by special methods. But it is always possible to have contamination in the water bodies therefore the monitoring of the water is essential for its quality.

The study was also carried out to find out any relation between the ultrasonic parameters and the physico-chemical parameters so that the process of quality monitoring can be made easier. Here in this case the decrease in the pH, TDS, calcium, chlorine and iron all can be related to the decrease in the density and there is decrease in ultrasonic velocity, which tends to decrease in acoustic impedance but the intermolecular free length and compressibility is increasing these observations of different samples does not conclude any specific relation between the TDS or calcium or chlorine with the ultrasonic parameters, but we can conclude at least that the increase in TDS or any solids in the water can be responsible for the increase in acoustical impedance because of increase in the ultrasonic velocity. The data provides us the clue to carry out more extended work on the interrelationship of the physico-chemical and ultrasonic parameters. There are four publications submitted to different conferences and the journals out of the observations and results from this project.
